Where do you backup your data?
Is typically a question we ask when first talking to someone about securing their customers and their company’s data. Invariably we get some variations of;
- “We don’t… yet”
- “We use Office 365/AppleStorage/Google Drive”
- “Our existing backup provider works fine”
The answers to those statements can be long, technical ones, but for the purpose of this post we’ll (try) to keep it short and sweet.
If you’re not backing up your data then you should. You really, really should. 25% of SMB’s do not survive a critical data loss. Data loss can happen in many different ways, if you’re storing all your data on one hard drive, on your laptop or a shared external drive, what happens if that goes pop? If you have something like Dropbox that all your users use, what’s to stop one of them deleting all the files? Apart from hard drives malfunctioning theft and ransom has taken many forms over the years, from highway robbers to bank heists. The criminals have swapped their guns for keyboards and their horses for high-speed internet. There are many ways data can be lost, it’s not something we like to think about. Everything is fine, until it’s not.
Google Drive and similar products are great for smaller businesses, generally free unless you plan on storing large volumes of data. However, with it being free also comes drawbacks. The backup process is manual, if you forget to add files to your backup and you suffer data loss then your files will be completely gone.

Safe from Ransomware with Kane’ Cloud Backup
Our solution comes with Active Protection, an advanced ransomware protection technology. It actively protects all of the data on your systems, from documents, media files, programs and backup files. It constantly observes how data files are being changed to detect a suspect process taking hostile action. By comparing them to know malicious behaviour patterns, this approach can identify ransomware attacks and work to stop them. If we detect ransomware that begins to encrypt your files, Cloud Backup quickly detects and halts this process.
So if you haven’t secured your data on your mobile phone, laptops, PC’s or servers get in touch with Kane to see how we can help you protect your business.
